At MLA College, we believe that a strong bond between student and tutor is the key to success. Our Student Support Officer has been appointed to assist both the student and their tutor with developing and maintaining this important relationship.
Your MLA College Student Support Officer, Estelle Widger, is the first point of contact for enrolled students who are in need of pastoral support, including requests under the Extenuating Circumstances policy for matters related to their academic studies. Estelle is also responsible for monitoring student engagement and academic progression and will contact students directly to offer assistance should they feel that intervention is needed.
Support Services for students are offered through MLA College and also through our partner, the University of Plymouth. A short overview of these services, and links for further information, is provided below.
From the moment you enrol as an MLA College student, your Student Support Officer will be there to provide any assistance you may need.
Although MLA College students will not be able to access the one-on-one services offered by the University, there are a wide range of online resources and self-help books and leaflets available for partner students such as SHINE (Self Help Inspiring E-resources). Find out more about the wellbeing services that are available through the University of Plymouth.
DISABILITY SERVICES
We like to ensure we have everything in place for you before you get started on your first module, and are happy to discuss your needs via email, phone or virtual meetings platforms. The Student Support Officer is the first point of contact for students who require additional support whilst studying.
Contact your Student Support Officer as soon as you have enrolled to discuss any additional requirements you may have.
LEARNING DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
Alongside the guidance you receive from your personal tutor, the University of Plymouth have put together an online collection of guides and resources to assist partner students with their studies. Cite them right – an online referencing guide and LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda.com) are amongst the services offered to MLA College students and can be accessed through the University’s website.
LIBRARY AND DIGITAL SUPPORT
As well as the in-house MLA College Technical team, the University of Plymouth IT Services is available to assist students with Primo and Pearl queries. You can contact them via email, and have also produced self-help and PDF guidesthat you may find useful.
