Information for students applying for Student Loans Company (SLC) funding

Undergraduate and postgraduate students from the UK, and some from the EU/EEA who normally reside in England and Northern Ireland, can apply to the Student Loans Company to help fund their studies. For more information about student loans and to check eligibility click here.

Undergraduate Students

MLA College undergraduate students who meet the eligibility criteria can apply to the Student Loans Company for funding to partially pay for their tuition fees.

Some important information before you apply:

  • Student Loans Company tuition fee loans are paid directly to MLA College and are pro-rata depending on the length of the programme.
  • The amount you receive may not cover the full programme fees, and you will be liable to pay any shortfall.
  • If the programme is more than 1 year in duration funding must be re-applied for each year.

Students enrolling for an undergraduate programme can apply for a maximum loan of £4,500 per academic year to contribute towards their tuition fees. Please note that any shortfall paid by students who do not apply for the maximum amount will be higher.

If you are unsure of the financial implications of applying for SLC funding, or you would like to discuss how to apply and how much to apply for, please contact us at student.finance@mla.ac.uk.

In addition, undergraduate students with a disability can apply for a means tested maintenance loan to cover day-to-day expenses and/or equipment which is paid to the student.

Undergraduate students should visit https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/student-loans-company for information on eligibility and how to apply.

Postgraduate Students

Postgraduate students enrolling onto a full MSc programme may also apply for funding. However, please note that MSc top-up only programmes are not eligible.

Postgraduate students can apply for up to a maximum of £12,167 which is split over the duration of the programme and paid directly to the student. Postgraduate loans can be used for living expenses or can be put towards tuition fees.

Postgraduate students should visit https://www.gov.uk/masters-loan for information on eligibility and how to apply.
