MLA College welcomed graduates from around the world to Plymouth on Tuesday 21 July for the MLA College Graduation Celebration 2026.
Held at the Crowne Plaza Plymouth, the event brought graduates and their families together with MLA College staff and tutors to recognise their academic achievements. The celebration took place before the graduates attended their official University of Plymouth graduation ceremony later that afternoon.
As a distance-learning institution with students based around the world, the event provided an important opportunity for members of the MLA College community to meet in person. For many graduates, this was the first time they have met their tutors, fellow students and members of the wider team face to face. The celebration gave them an opportunity to reflect on their studies, share their experiences and celebrate alongside the people who have supported them throughout their time at MLA College. Guests travelled considerable distances to attend the event, including graduates and their families from Sri Lanka and Singapore. Their journeys reflected the international reach of MLA College and the commitment shown by graduates throughout their studies.
Completing a higher education qualification requires considerable dedication, particularly for students balancing their studies with professional and personal responsibilities. The event recognised the hard work and perseverance behind each graduate’s achievement.
During the celebration, Dr Jaimie Cross delivered a speech congratulating the graduates and recognising the commitment that had brought them to this important point in their academic and professional journeys. Each graduate was also presented with a special MLA College gold pin badge. The badge is reserved exclusively for MLA College alumni and members of staff, representing their lasting connection to MLA and our international community. The presentation marked the graduates’ transition from students to alumni, and welcomed them into MLA College’s growing global alumni network.
Following the MLA College Graduation Celebration at the Crowne Plaza, graduates and their families made their way to the Methodist Church for their official University of Plymouth graduation ceremony. The ceremony formally marked the completion of their qualifications and provided another opportunity for graduates to celebrate their success with family and friends.
