Phil Hughes, Head of Operations, and Jana Klbikova, Admissions Manager, represented MLA College last week at Nor-Shipping 2025 in Oslo, Norway – one of the world’s most influential maritime industry gatherings.
Although not exhibiting this year, the MLA College team attended as delegates to engage with key players from across the global maritime landscape. Their aim was to explore avenues for deeper partnership work and continue building meaningful industry relationships that support MLA’s mission of delivering flexible, global education for maritime professionals.
During their time at Nor-Shipping, the team connected with a range of potential collaborators from across the maritime sector. From training providers to industry bodies, conversations focused on identifying areas for potential collaboration, particularly in advancing skills, innovation, and sustainability through education.
A standout moment came at a reception hosted by Marketing in Maritime, which brought together marketing professionals from across the industry. The event provided a relaxed yet productive setting to exchange ideas, establish new connections, and spotlight MLA College’s unique approach to industry engagement.
In a particularly rewarding aspect of the trip, the team also met with a number of current MLA College students and graduates who were attending Nor-Shipping as representatives of their employers. These meet-ups, offered powerful, real-world proof of MLA’s commitment to supporting professionals already working in the sector.
As a distance-learning provider focused on flexibility, MLA College prides itself on providing degree-level programmes that integrate seamlessly with full-time employment. Seeing alumni thrive within the maritime workforce and applying their education on a global stage served as a meaningful reminder of the College’s ongoing impact.
The team attended two key conference sessions: Singapore@Nor-Shipping and India@Nor-Shipping. Each session offered valuable perspectives on national maritime strategies, future innovations, and international collaboration.
“Both Singapore and India share a common focus with Norway on sustainability and maritime innovation,” said Phil Hughes. “These sessions highlighted not only the similarities between global approaches but also the rich opportunities for cross-border learning and partnership, which is very much in MLA College’s DNA.”
As a higher education institution that serves students across the globe, MLA College is keenly attuned to international maritime developments. Events like Nor-Shipping offer the chance to stay connected with emerging trends and ensure MLA College’s programmes remain responsive and relevant.
“Wherever the global maritime community gathers, there’s always an opportunity for MLA College to engage in conversations that matter,” added Jana. “Being present at events like this, reinforces our commitment to shaping a workforce that is not only technically capable but globally connected.”
From meaningful networking to shared insight on future challenges, Nor-Shipping 2025 once again proved its worth as a hub for maritime progress, and MLA College is proud to be part of that journey.
