Celebrating Maritime Excellence at the ICS Annual Student Awards.

Last week, MLA College was honoured to be part of the ICS Mumbai Branch Annual Student Awards, held on Saturday, 26th July 2025.

Held at a venue with over 200 attendees, the ICS (Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers) Annual Student Awards brought together a mix of industry professionals, organisations, students, families, and global ICS leadership, to celebrate academic excellence and professional progress in the shipping world.

MLA College sponsored the “Bare Boat Chartered By” award, a recognition of exceptional student achievement. This year’s award went to Captain Shikhar Mohindru, who successfully completed five subjects in a single attempt. It was a remarkable feat that showcases unmatched discipline, focus, and intellect. We were incredibly proud to present this award on such an important platform.

Pallavi Sharma
, Head of Student Recruitment, Sheefa Fijiwala, Senior Marketing Manager, and Arjun Sekhon, Student Recruitment Advisor, also spent the week in Mumbai, meeting with a variety of stakeholders across the maritime, shipping, and sustainability sectors.

Mumbai continues to assert its position as a key player in the global maritime sector, with growing significance for the future of international shipping and trade. The MLA team engaged with a range of institutions, companies, and professionals driving innovation, education, and sustainability across the industry.

One of the highlights of the week was the opportunity to engage in deeper conversations about the evolving needs of the sector.

“It has been a privilege to build awareness of MLA College here in Mumbai among maritime and sustainability professionals and organisations,” said Pallavi Sharma, Head of Student Recruitment. “The week has been filled with thought-provoking conversations with industry leaders about where the sector is heading over the next few years, particularly with the rise of digitisation and artificial intelligence. There’s a clear recognition of the growing skills gap, and it’s encouraging to see a shared understanding that continued professional development (CPD) is essential to ensure the workforce remains future-ready in a constantly evolving global landscape.”

With India’s maritime sector poised to grow at an estimated 7% annually over the next five years, MLA College is proud to be building a strong presence in a region that will undeniably play a central role in global shipping and trade.
